Information Technology (IT) management has evolved significantly over the past few years as IT-based solutions have become increasingly critical to the functioning of organizations. From device, network and systems management, solutions have evolved to include service management and IT governance, as witnessed by the recent popularity of ITIL and COBIT frameworks as well as the international standard ISO/IEC 20000.
A recent shift in perspective brought to bear a more customer-centric approach to IT management, putting IT managers in condition to look at IT not just from the IT department's traditional point of view, but from the customers’ and users’ points of view. Even more recently, a further shift towards holistic understanding of IT in order to fulfill business objectives is occurring: one now wishes to look beyond IT services to the context where the services are used. This is termed Business-driven IT Management (BDIM) and is the main subject of this Workshop.
BDIM focuses on the impact of IT on business processes and business-level objectives and vice versa; besides the conventional IT metrics such as availability and response time, it looks at other key performance indicators (KPIs), that is metrics that have significance from the point of view of the business supported by the IT. The BDIM approach aims at rethinking IT management from a business perspective. BDIM is not restricted to IT environments in enterprises, but encompasses techniques and decision making that involve thinking about IT in
terms of objectives that are at business level, of organizations that may not traditionally be classified as "businesses".
The seventh edition of the BDIM workshop builds on the success of the first six editions that were held in conjunction with NOMS 2006, IM 2007, NOMS 2008, IM 2009, NOMS 2010, and IM 2011. BDIM 2012 aims to continue building the community of researchers in business-driven IT management by inviting complete, original, unpublished contributions in the following, or related topic areas:
Modelling for business-driven IT management
Decision support methods and tools for business-driven IT management
Automation and Integration for business-driven IT management
Business objectives and Service Level Management
Business-driven IT management for e-infrastructures
IEEE/IFIP Network Operations and Management Symposium *
Each version of NOMS has a theme, as for example 2012, "Managing the Next Wave of Information and Communications Technologies," is specifically matched to the conference location, setting the conference's focus on leading edge coverage of this timely and important area.
NOMS features:
Technical Program
Paper Sessions - providing numerous technical sessions with papers presenting the latest technical advances through peer-reviewed paper sessions.
Poster Sessions – enabling one-on-one interactions between authors and attendees.
Tutorials - offering education for keeping up with new and emerging topics essential to today's engineering and technology environment.
Workshops - with specialized focus on the latest breakthroughs in information and communications technology management in an environment that encourages discussion and debate.
Industrial Forum and Patrons
Keynote Presentations – seven top industry leaders share their visions and experiences, and challenge us in exciting, new ways.
Applications Sessions - featuring exciting panel sessions with sometimes controversial viewpoints on hot new topics of importance to our community.
Exhibits - where major vendors and service providers have the opportunity to display their latest products and services.
Professional Development
Dissertation Session – recognizing the best doctoral thesis from among the best and brightest of our next generation.
GOLD Session – providing a forum for the IEEE Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) program to address career and other professional development needs for recent graduates.
IFIP/IEEE International Symposium on Integrated Network Management *
Held in odd-numbered years since 1989, IM 2013 will follow the 25 years tradition of NOMS and IM as the primary IEEE Communications Society's forum for technical exchange on management of information and communication technology focusing on research, development, integration, standards, service provisioning, and user communities.
IM offer five types of sessions: technical, application, poster, panel and dissertation digest. High quality will be assured through a well qualified Technical Program Committee and stringent peer review of paper submissions. A special call for demonstrations will be organized to allow industry partners and researchers to demonstrate early products and prototypes.
